This weekend was a long weekend, with Monday being a public holiday. The weather forecast was perfect, and Kris and I set off in Miss October to check out the campsites at Wee Jasper. The plan was to stay somewhere new, with the fall back option being to camp at Micalong Creek, one of the sites visited in Two Up Down Under.
In the event, having rejected Carey’s Reserve (too bare, and clearly focussed on fishing rather than camping), and the Frankllin Trailhead (far too crowded), we settled at the Billy Grace Reserve.
Although Billy Grace was crowded, the focus was very much at the far end of the site, where there was fishing and swimming available, and large spaces where many family groups had set up camp. However, at the top end of the site, we found a lovely quiet and shady spot next to a stream, where we camped up.
We set up in the usual Miss October mode, with the awning on the side, camp kitchen set up for the food, cooking gear, crockery etc. Cooking was achieved using the Kombi’s fold out cooker, with sleeping in a double sleeping bag using the 6ft double bed made by dropping the table between the bench seats in the body of the bus.
All in all, a very comfortable set up. We passed a very quiet weekend, reading and enjoying the sights of the beautiful spring weather. We did manage some short strolls exploring the very large site, but mostly we just chilled. Just the job.
